Service overview

Emergency Cover That Isan Engineer, Not a Call Centre

An emergency is defined by consequence, not by inconvenience. Water escaping into a building, a gas appliance behaving unsafely, or a household with no heat in cold weather all need attention now, because the damage or risk grows with every hour of delay.

Rusupo Heating and Plumbing Ltd runs genuine 24-hour cover across Essex and Suffolk, seven days a week. Calls are usually answered personally by Matt Anderson, the Gas Safe registered engineer who will attend, so the person on the phone is the person who can tell you what to do in the meantime. The typical response time is within the hour.

The first job is always to stop the damage: isolate, make safe, stabilise. The second is to diagnose properly and give you a fixed price for the repair before it is carried out. Emergency work carries our 6-month workmanship guarantee like any other job, and we hold £2,000,000 public liability insurance.

Why professional help matters

  • Gas appliance work in an emergency is still legally restricted to Gas Safe registered engineers, registration 638860 in our case.
  • Stopping a leak safely means knowing what to isolate, in what order, and what the water has already reached electrically.
  • Temporary bodges frequently fail again within days, usually at a worse moment and with more damage.
  • Insurers routinely want evidence that a competent, registered and insured contractor carried out the emergency work.

Who this is for

  • Homeowners with a burst pipe, an active leak, or water coming through a ceiling
  • Anyone with no heating or hot water in cold weather, particularly with children or elderly residents
  • Landlords with a tenanted property that has lost heating, hot water or water supply
  • People with a boiler that has locked out, is leaking, or is behaving unsafely
  • Anyone who has had to turn the water off at the stopcock and cannot turn it back on

When it is needed

  • Water is escaping and you cannot stop it at an isolation valve
  • A ceiling is bulging, staining or dripping from a leak above
  • The boiler has failed completely in cold weather
  • A cylinder, radiator or pipe is leaking onto floors or into a cupboard
  • There is a suspected gas issue, in which case call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first

The cost of waiting

Why an Hour Mattersin a Plumbing Emergency

Escaping water causes damage on a curve, not a line. A leak that has run for an hour is a wet patch. The same leak after a night is soaked insulation, saturated plasterboard, damaged flooring and, frequently, a ceiling that comes down. The cost of the plumbing repair rarely changes; the cost of everything around it multiplies.

Water and electricity in the same space is the risk people underestimate. Water tracking into ceiling voids reaches light fittings and cabling. If water is coming through a ceiling near lights, the sensible order is to turn off the supply, keep out of the room and get the circuit isolated.

Loss of heating is a genuine emergency in cold weather for anyone vulnerable, and it also carries a property risk: pipes in unheated lofts and outbuildings can freeze and burst, turning one failure into several. Restoring heat quickly is not just about comfort.

Common mistakes we see

  • Not knowing where the internal stopcock is until the moment water is running
  • Tightening a leaking fitting hard and shearing it, turning a drip into a flow
  • Repeatedly resetting a boiler that has locked out for a genuine safety reason
  • Leaving the water on overnight and hoping a drip holds until morning
  • Using an unregistered, uninsured caller because they answered first

In detail

Emergency Call-Outs (24hr)Explained Properly

What to do before we arrive

For a water leak, turn off the internal stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink, in a downstairs cloakroom or near where the main enters the property. Then open the cold taps to drain down the pipework, which reduces the volume still escaping. If the leak is on the heating system, closing the valves at each end of the affected radiator often isolates it entirely.

For water near electrics, do not touch anything wet or switch things on. Keep out of the affected room, turn the supply off, and if water is entering light fittings or the consumer unit, get the electrical supply isolated.

If you smell gas: do not use switches or naked flames, turn the gas off at the meter control valve if it is safe, open windows and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. That is the correct first call, ahead of any plumber. Once the supply is made safe, we will attend to the appliance.

Emergencies we attend most

Burst and leaking pipes are the most frequent, especially at compression joints, on old pipework and after cold snaps. Frozen and burst pipework in lofts, garages and outbuildings is a seasonal pattern across Essex and Suffolk every winter.

Boiler failures make up the other large share: complete lockouts, leaks from inside the case, pressure loss overnight, and frozen condensate pipes shutting the appliance down. Many of these can be dealt with on the first visit, and where a part is needed we tell you the timescale honestly.

The rest is a spread of leaking cylinders, failed valves, blocked or overflowing toilets, leaking taps and showers that cannot be isolated, and total loss of hot water. Our Checkatrade reviews include emergency heating repair, a hot water fix and a late-night airlock resolved first thing the following morning.

Temporary make-safe versus permanent repair

In an emergency the first objective is stopping the damage. Sometimes the permanent repair follows immediately in the same visit; sometimes the right move is a controlled make-safe, isolating a section, capping a leg, restoring the rest of the supply, with the permanent repair booked once the affected area has dried out or a part has arrived.

We will always tell you which of those two you are getting and why. What we will not do is leave a temporary fix presented as a permanent one, because those fail again, usually at three in the morning.

Where the emergency has revealed an underlying condition problem, a system full of sludge, pipework at the end of its life, a boiler beyond economical repair, we set out the options with fixed prices and no pressure to decide on the spot.

Emergency cover across Essex and Suffolk

We cover Braintree, Colchester, Kelvedon, Tiptree, Feering, Halstead, Sudbury, Sible Hedingham, Coggeshall and the surrounding villages, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from Earls Colne.

For landlords, emergency response matters both for tenant welfare and for limiting damage to the property. We attend tenanted properties, liaise with tenants over access, and provide documentation of the work carried out for your records.

Questions

Emergency Call-Outs (24hr)Questions Answered

Something not covered here? Call 07984 042373: the 24-hour line is usually answered personally by Matt.

Are you really available 24 hours?

Yes. We run genuine 24-hour emergency cover across Essex and Suffolk, seven days a week. Calls are usually answered personally by Matt, and the typical response time is within the hour.

How much does an emergency call-out cost?

The repair is quoted as a fixed price based on the work in front of us, agreed before we carry it out, rather than run on an open-ended hourly rate. You will know the figure before the repair starts.

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Anything where delay causes damage or risk: escaping water you cannot isolate, a leak coming through a ceiling, a burst pipe, a leaking cylinder or boiler, or a total loss of heating or hot water in cold weather, particularly where children or elderly residents are affected.

What should I do while I wait for you?

Turn off the internal stopcock and open the cold taps to drain the pipework. If the leak is on a radiator, close the valves at both ends. Keep away from water near electrics, and put containers and towels down to limit spread.

What if I smell gas?

Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. Do not operate switches or use naked flames, turn the gas off at the meter control valve if it is safe to do so, and open windows. Once the supply is safe, call us for the appliance.

Can you fix it on the first visit?

In most cases yes. Where a specific part has to be ordered, we make the situation safe, restore what we can, and give you a clear timescale for the permanent repair rather than leaving you guessing.

Do you cover weekends and bank holidays?

Yes: our cover runs 24 hours, seven days a week, across the whole of our Essex and Suffolk service area.

Is emergency work guaranteed?

Yes. Emergency repairs carry the same 6-month workmanship guarantee as any other job, and we hold £2,000,000 public liability insurance.

Which areas do you cover for emergencies?

Braintree, Colchester, Kelvedon, Tiptree, Feering, Halstead, Sudbury, Sible Hedingham, Coggeshall and the surrounding Essex and Suffolk villages.

How do I pay for emergency work?

Payment is currently by bank transfer, with card payments being introduced shortly.
