Service overview

A Heating System DesignedFor Your Property, Not a Template

A full central heating installation covers everything between the gas meter and the radiator valve: the boiler and flue, the gas supply, primary and secondary pipework, radiators sized per room, hot water arrangement, controls and zoning, and the cleaning, dosing and balancing that make the whole thing work as one system.

Getting this right is a design job before it is an installation job. Radiators must be sized against each room's heat loss, pipework must be sized to deliver the flow those radiators need, and the boiler must be matched to the total demand. When any of those three is guessed, you get the classic symptoms: a boiling hallway, a cold back bedroom, and a boiler that cycles constantly.

Rusupo Heating and Plumbing Ltd carries out the whole scope with one Gas Safe registered engineer, Matt Anderson, under registration 638860, which covers domestic pipework, boilers, vented and unvented cylinders and water heaters. As a Vaillant Advanced Installer we can offer up to a 10-year manufacturer's warranty on new Vaillant boilers, and every installation carries our 6-month workmanship guarantee.

Why professional help matters

  • Gas work is legally restricted to Gas Safe registered engineers, and a whole-system installation touches gas supply, flue and appliance.
  • Radiator and pipework sizing determines whether the system ever works properly, this is calculation, not estimation.
  • Unvented hot water cylinders (G3) require specific competence to install and certify, which our registration covers.
  • Cleaning, inhibiting and balancing at handover is what determines whether the system still performs in five years' time.

Who this is for

  • Properties with no central heating at all, or with electric heaters being replaced by wet central heating
  • Homeowners renovating, extending or converting where the existing system cannot serve the new layout
  • Houses still running legacy single-pipe systems or a back boiler that has reached the end of its life
  • Landlords upgrading a property to a modern, efficient and documented heating system
  • Anyone who has spent years with rooms that never quite reach temperature

When it is needed

  • You are adding rooms, a loft conversion or an extension and demand has changed
  • The existing system is heavily corroded, leaking at multiple points or beyond economic repair
  • Radiators are undersized, badly positioned, or were never balanced after previous work
  • You want zoned control so bedrooms and living areas run on different schedules
  • The house has been renovated to a much better insulation standard and the old system is now wrong for it

The cost of waiting

The Real Cost of aBadly Designed System

A poorly designed heating system does not fail dramatically. It underperforms quietly for years. You turn the thermostat up to compensate for one cold room, which overheats every other room, which burns gas you did not need to burn. Every winter of that is money leaving through a design fault that was set in place on installation day.

Undersized pipework and unbalanced circuits also make the boiler work outside its comfortable range. Short-cycling wears components faster, prevents a condensing boiler from actually condensing, and pushes you back into repair costs on an appliance that should have had years left.

Systems installed without proper cleaning and inhibitor start producing magnetite within the first heating season. That sludge settles in radiator bottoms, blocks valves, kills pumps, and eventually reaches the heat exchanger of a boiler that may still be under warranty, at which point the warranty position becomes a conversation about system water quality.

Common mistakes we see

  • Reusing old radiators on a new system without checking whether they are sized for the room
  • Skipping the cleanse and inhibitor to save a small amount on installation day
  • Fitting a combi in a multi-bathroom house without measuring the incoming mains flow rate
  • Leaving the system unbalanced, so the nearest radiators take all the flow
  • Accepting a quote that does not state radiators, controls, cleaning and flue work explicitly

Our process

How We HandleFull Central Heating Installations

  1. 01

    Survey and heat requirement assessment

We assess the property room by room, look at insulation, existing pipework, gas supply and hot water demand, and discuss how the house is actually used.

  2. 02

    System design and fixed quote

Boiler type and output, radiator sizes and positions, cylinder choice, zoning and controls, all set out in a free fixed quote typically within 24 hours of the survey.

  3. 03

    First fix pipework

Primary and secondary pipework installed, gas supply upgraded where needed, radiator positions set out and cylinder location prepared, with the property protected as we work.

  4. 04

    Second fix and commissioning

Boiler, radiators, valves, cylinder and controls fitted; system filled, cleaned, dosed with inhibitor, and the boiler commissioned with full combustion analysis.

  5. 05

    Balancing, handover and guarantee

Every radiator balanced so the house heats evenly, controls explained, documentation issued, manufacturer's warranty registered, and 6 months' workmanship guarantee applied.

In detail

Full Central Heating InstallationsExplained Properly

System types and layouts

Most modern domestic installations are sealed systems: pressurised, with an expansion vessel and no feed and expansion tank in the loft. They are cleaner, easier to control and remove the corrosion risk that comes with an open vent constantly introducing air.

Two-pipe layouts are standard, giving each radiator the same flow temperature. Legacy single-pipe systems, still found in older Essex properties, feed radiators in series so the last one on the circuit is always cooler, one of the most common reasons a house has a permanently cold room. Converting to two-pipe is a frequent part of the work we quote.

Where a property is being renovated, we often run pipework in a manifold or radial arrangement to reduce joints under floors and make future changes simpler. Materials are chosen for the location: copper where it is visible or exposed, appropriate plastic barrier pipe where it is buried in screed or run under floors, with proper protection and sleeving.

Hot water: combi, cylinder or unvented

Hot water strategy drives boiler choice. A combi is efficient and space-saving but limited by the incoming mains flow rate, which is why we measure it rather than assume. For a one-bathroom house with a decent main, it is usually the right answer.

For two or more bathrooms, or for households where several people shower in the same period, stored hot water in an unvented cylinder gives mains-pressure flow to every outlet at once. Unvented cylinder work falls under G3 and requires specific competence, it is covered by our Gas Safe registration, which includes vented and unvented cylinders and water heaters.

Vented cylinders with a header tank remain a valid and cheaper option where the layout suits and mains pressure is poor, and we install and certify those too. The right answer depends on the house, the mains and the household, not on which option is quickest to fit.

Controls, zoning and smart heating

Controls are where a good system becomes a comfortable one. Thermostatic radiator valves on every radiator except the room containing the main thermostat, a programmer with independent heating and hot water schedules, and zoning where the property has clearly different usage patterns: upstairs versus downstairs, or an annexe or home office.

Smart thermostats add scheduling and remote control, which matters more than it sounds for households with unpredictable hours or for keeping a property above the frost line while it is empty. Our current Summer Boiler Deal includes a free Hive smart thermostat worth £129.99 with every boiler installation, plus the first year's service free.

Flow temperature setting is the last piece and the most overlooked. Condensing boilers only condense at lower return temperatures, so a system with correctly sized radiators can run cooler and cheaper. We set this at commissioning rather than leaving the factory default in place.

Installing across Essex and Suffolk properties

We install full heating systems in Braintree, Colchester, Kelvedon, Tiptree, Feering, Halstead, Sudbury, Sible Hedingham, Coggeshall and the surrounding villages. The building stock across this area ranges from period cottages with solid walls and no obvious pipe routes to newer estate housing where the challenge is cupboard space and flue position.

Period properties usually need more design attention: higher heat losses, awkward radiator positions, and pipe routing that has to be planned rather than improvised. Newer properties tend to be simpler but often need the hot water strategy rethought when a second bathroom is added.

Whatever the property, the work is surveyed before it is priced, and the price is fixed on the difficulty of the job rather than run on an hourly rate.

Questions

Full Central Heating InstallationsQuestions Answered

Something not covered here? Call 07984 042373: the 24-hour line is usually answered personally by Matt.

How much does a full central heating installation cost?

It is quoted per property, because the price depends on the number and size of radiators, the pipework routes, the boiler and hot water arrangement, and the condition of the existing installation. The survey and quote are free, fixed, and typically with you within 24 hours.

How long does a full system installation take?

Most whole-house installations run to several days depending on property size, radiator count and whether floors need lifting. Your quote sets out the expected duration and how heating and hot water will be affected day by day.

Will you need to lift floors or make holes?

Some pipe routing usually requires floorboards to be lifted and holes to be drilled. We plan routes to minimise disruption, protect the property while working, and make good as far as the trade allows: decorative finishing is normally excluded and stated as such in the quote.

Can I keep my existing radiators?

Sometimes. If they are sound and correctly sized for the room, reusing them is sensible. If they are undersized, heavily corroded or full of sludge, reusing them undermines the whole system, and we will tell you which category yours fall into at survey.

Should I choose a combi or a cylinder?

It depends on bathroom count and incoming mains flow rate. One bathroom with a good main usually suits a combi; two or more bathrooms, or simultaneous showers, usually justify a system boiler with an unvented cylinder. We measure the mains at survey rather than guessing.

Do you install zoned or smart controls?

Yes. Zoning and smart thermostats are designed in at the quoting stage, and our current Summer Boiler Deal includes a free Hive smart thermostat worth £129.99 with every boiler installation.

What guarantee comes with the installation?

All our workmanship is guaranteed for six months, and as a Vaillant Advanced Installer we can offer up to a 10-year manufacturer's warranty on new Vaillant boilers, registered at commissioning.

Will the system be balanced before you leave?

Yes. Balancing every radiator so the house heats evenly is part of the handover, along with setting the controls and flow temperature. A system that is not balanced is not finished.

Do you install central heating in Braintree and Colchester?

Yes, and across Kelvedon, Tiptree, Feering, Halstead, Sudbury, Sible Hedingham, Coggeshall and the surrounding Essex and Suffolk villages.

How is the work paid for?

Payment is currently by bank transfer, with card payments being introduced shortly. The quoted fixed price is the price unless you change the scope.
