Colchester, Essex · CO1 – CO7
Rusupo Heating and Plumbing Ltd is based in Earls Colne, Colchester. Colchester is not an area we drive out to, it is the postcode on our own paperwork, and a large share of our verified Checkatrade reviews come from CO4, CO5 and CO6 addresses.
That local density matters when something goes wrong. We run 24-hour emergency cover across the whole CO1 to CO7 area, calls are usually answered personally by Matt, and typical response time is within the hour. For a town where a January heating failure can mean a house full of children or an elderly relative without hot water, that is the number that actually counts.
Colchester's housing is genuinely varied, and heating work has to respond to that. The town centre and New Town are dense Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Greenstead and Monkwick are post-war estates. Lexden and Prettygate hold larger interwar detached properties with conventional systems and hot water cylinders. Stanway, Myland and the northern growth areas are modern sealed systems and combis. And around the university there is a substantial student and HMO rental market with its own compliance requirements.
Victorian terraces in New Town and the centre
Solid walls, chimney breasts, and heating retrofitted over decades. Flue routing and radiator sizing are the real constraints, not boiler choice.
Lexden and Prettygate detached homes
Larger properties often still on conventional systems with a cylinder. System boilers and unvented cylinders usually suit these better than a single combi.
Stanway, Myland and new-build estates
Sealed systems, smart controls and combis under manufacturer's warranty: where annual servicing is the difference between a valid warranty and an expensive argument.
Student lets and HMOs near the university
High-use hot water, frequent tenant turnover, and a hard legal requirement for an in-date CP12 on every property.
Boiler repairs and fault diagnosis
Fault found, cause explained and a fixed price agreed before the repair: rather than parts fitted speculatively at your expense.
Unvented cylinder work
Larger Colchester homes need G3-qualified work on unvented cylinders. That is within our Gas Safe scope and certified on completion.
Emergency leaks and no hot water
Genuine 24-hour cover across CO1–CO7, including the late-night calls that most firms route to voicemail.
Landlord CP12 certificates
A large rental market means a lot of annual certificates. Booked around tenants, documented and issued on the day.

View serviceWhy us
We are based at Earls Colne, Colchester. Local is not a claim here, it is where the company is registered and where most of our reviews come from.
10/10 on Checkatrade from 27 verified reviews, with named jobs in the Colchester postcodes: emergency heating repairs, leaks, low pressure and Hive installations.
One customer's review specifically records us communicating late at night about an air lock and returning first thing the next morning to fix it. That is what the 24-hour line is for.
Registration 638860 covers boilers, pipework, vented and unvented cylinders, water heaters, cookers, range cookers, fires and combustion analysis.
Up to a 10-year manufacturer's warranty on new Vaillant boilers installed anywhere in Colchester, registered by us on completion.
Free quotes typically within 24 hours, priced by the job, and every piece of workmanship guaranteed for six months.
Local conditions
Colchester's Victorian terraces sit close together, and flue termination rules are unforgiving about proximity to boundaries, openings and neighbouring properties. A boiler position that looks obvious from inside the kitchen often will not comply once the flue has to exit the wall, and rear extensions built over the years have made a lot of original positions unusable.
This is a large part of why we survey rather than quote from a photograph. Getting the appliance position and flue route right first time avoids the situation where an installation is started, found to be non-compliant, and then either abandoned or bodged with an extended flue run that nobody wants to service.
North Essex water is hard. In practice that means scale in combi heat exchangers, seized shower cartridges, furred immersion heaters and stiff tap mechanisms, and it shortens the life of anything that heats water quickly. Colchester properties with high hot water demand, particularly shared houses and family homes with two bathrooms, feel it soonest.
One of the jobs in our verified reviews is a thermostatic shower and bathroom taps replaced and re-masticked in a nearby postcode: a very typical hard-water outcome. Where it is worth doing, we will discuss scale protection on the incoming main rather than replacing the same failed component every couple of years.
The bigger interwar and post-war detached houses on the west side of Colchester often run conventional systems with a hot water cylinder in an airing cupboard and a tank in the loft. Owners are frequently told to rip it all out for a combi, which is the wrong advice in a house with two or three bathrooms: a single combi cannot supply simultaneous outlets at a decent flow rate.
In these properties a system boiler with a correctly sized unvented cylinder usually gives better performance and a longer service life. We install and certify vented and unvented (G3) cylinders, and will tell you plainly when a combi is a downgrade for your house rather than an upgrade.
Colchester's rental market around the university and the town centre includes a lot of houses in multiple occupation. These properties have heavy, simultaneous hot water demand, tenants who change every summer, and a legal obligation on the landlord to hold a valid CP12 gas safety certificate for every gas appliance, renewed every twelve months.
We carry out CP12s across Colchester, working around tenant availability, and issue the documented certificate on completion. Where an appliance fails, you get a clear written explanation and a fixed price to correct it, not a vague warning that leaves you exposed at the next inspection.
Myland, Stanway and the newer northern developments are dominated by sealed systems. The recurring complaints are pressure dropping week after week, radiators that will not warm through, and air locks that leave a bathroom with no hot water while the rest of the house is fine.
Topping up the filling loop is a symptom fix. Water is leaving the system somewhere: a weeping joint under a floor, a failed expansion vessel, or a pressure relief valve discharging outside. We look for the cause, because every refill introduces fresh oxygenated water and accelerates internal corrosion of the radiators.
The post-war estates east and south of the town centre have systems that are now well into their third or fourth decade. Steel pipework buried in solid floors, original radiators full of magnetite, and boilers that are still running but well past the point where parts are economically available.
The honest conversation here is about the whole system, not just the appliance. Replacing a boiler onto a heavily sludged system without a proper clean will usually invalidate the manufacturer's warranty and can block the new heat exchanger within a season. Where a powerflush is needed we will say so, and where it is not, we will say that too.
Our process
Tell us the address in Colchester, what the boiler or system is doing, and roughly how old it is. The 24-hour line is usually answered personally by Matt rather than a call centre.
We come out to the property, look at the actual installation rather than guessing from a phone description, and check pipework, controls, pressures and flue arrangement.
You get a written price based on the difficulty of the job, not an open-ended hourly rate. Quotes across Colchester are free and typically turned around within 24 hours of looking at the work.
Once you accept, the work is booked and completed by a Gas Safe registered engineer, then tested: gas rate, working pressures, combustion analysis where relevant, and every joint checked.
We explain what was done and what to watch for, leave the property clean, and back the workmanship with a 6-month guarantee. Vaillant installs can carry up to a 10-year manufacturer's warranty.
